Working as a Team
This module describes the basic concepts that go into effectively building a team within a practice. Concepts to be discussed include improving communication, involving employees in the decision-making process, staff training, and creating a mechanism for accountability such as job descriptions and performance evaluations. Additionally, this module will explore and provide strategies for inviting and supporting patients and their families to participate as members of their healthcare team. All of these functions are essential to developing a high-performing, team-based practice.
Why is this important?
Innovative ideas and well-written policies may have limited benefit unless the practice works as a well-functioning team internally and encourages the patient and family to engage as valued members of their health care team.
How will these tools help?
This module includes information and resources on a variety of issues related to teamwork. The sample guidelines, policies, and tools can be customized for each practice situation.
